Makeup 365 Day 59 and 60 - Wow, two months!

I cannot believe I have been doing this for 60 days. On day 1 I was still employed, had no idea how I would even begin to get into the film industry and had yet to find NJR. So much has changed since then including the way I do my makeup. What a journey this had been and I still have 305 days to go! Thank you all for reading.

Day 59:
More nail art!

Photobucket

I used OPI Russian Navy Matte and Sephora by OPI Traffic Stopper Copper

Day 60:
A little Christmas cheer. I got the idea from a picture I saw on Tumblr (yea, yea).

Makeup 365 Day 59 - OMG I love it!

I never, NEVER, say that I love my work. Ever. And while I see places that this one could use some practice (my latex application has slipped since college) I still love it! Again, this was found on tumblr (I will stop being put off by that place some time, guys, promise) and I just fell in love with it when I saw it. Lots of love being passed around tonight. So, without further ado ... Day 59.

The project:

http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lv8zr8SSle1r11lhoo1_500.png

Let me preface this with I went on a mad hunt today to Party City in search of simply liquid latex. I'm on a kick about doing scars (complete fed by the fact that the Castle peeps screwed us with Beckett's scars, just sayin'), so latex is needed. I REALLY want to try this new product called Sculpt Gel Pro. It's only available in London as far as I can find right now and I see nothing about being able to order it. Le sigh. There is a vid of someone making a bullet wound ... totes was to do that too! Anyway, liquid latex turned into liquid latex, white pancake that was crap and got thrown away, and some creme makeup. The creme makeup got used here. It may be cheap, but it worked!

The makeup:

Did I say I love this yet? 'Cause I do!

Soak up the word love here, you wont hear it often!

Makeup 365 Day 57 and 58 - Thanksgiving weekend funz

I have decided that since nails are part of the makeup department's responsibilities that I am going to start doing some nail art for these makeups as well. That being said, I apologize for my lack of anything over the weekend. I had the Mid-Atlantic Oireachtus this weekend which is a regional Irish dance competition in the US. Between that and the holiday I just didn't have time for makeup. Oops! I'm working on making it up to you all! This post is for Saturday and Sunday. I will post Monday in a bit and post two makeups tomorrow for Tuesday and Wednesday. Thank God I'm not working!

Day 57:

The makeup:
Photobucket
(Pictured: Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer in Nude, Estee Lauder palette, MAC False Lashes, Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, Sephora blush in rose frais, Smashbox waterproof gel eyeliner)

My skin is having another break out right now and the day before I would be wearing full foundation and then sweating while wearing it, I decided a 'day off' for my skin was in order. This is getting old ... why would my body choose now to have acne?!

My results:

Day 58:

I chose to do a nail polish thing I found on tumblr ... that place is useful sometimes!

The polish:
Photobucket
(Pictured: glitter, OPI Lincoln Park After Midnight, Ruby Kisses clear top coat)

My results:
Photobucket

I always, and I mean always, wear nail polish. I hate my stubby fat hands, so nail polish and rings are worn every day to make them look a bit more girly. More nail art to come!

Makeup 365 Day 56 - A Little Black Friday Fun

Tonight's makeup comes to you thanks to tumblr (that place is scary sometimes ...). Go on there and just search 'makeup'. So many neat things! Anyway, here is the project:

I think it turned out pretty good! Kind of a fun start to the Christmas season. Ciao!

Makeup 365 Day 55 - Thanksgivng Glam

Happy belated Thanksgiving, my peeps! I know this is late but, believe me, the internet was a jerk last night! Between Photobucket being slow and then blogger not wanting to load I just lost my patience. I will do Day 56 a little later on tonight.

In other news: starting next week, once a week or twice a month or as often as I can, I am going to do special posts on the history of makeup in tv and film. I have a passion for film and combining these two passions can only be aided by my knowing the roots of the art form. So, you get to learn with me! I hope you all will enjoy it.

Now, on to day 55:

I didn't have a project today. We brought home our foster dog on Wednesday and she ha been sick, so I have been taking her for a walk every hour or two. On top of that, we have the holiday, so I went with something I know and like and threw in some bouncy red carpet curls.

The makeup:

Remember, ladies: everyone looks good with a cat eye! Happy Thanksgiving!

Makeup 365 Days 53 and 54 - Revisiting B&W and some ugly stencils

I seriously completed day 53 last night, I just got a little side track playing with the ladies over at Stana Talk Radio. Yea, yea. I know. We just got caught up talking about Monday's stellar episode of Castle and, hey, don't act like you aren't a fan of something. I'll refrain from sticking my tongue out like a 6 year old.

Anywho, I found a gorgeous black and white photo on tumblr (my God, I have one of those ...) and just had to replicate it. So, here is Day 53.

The project:
Photobucket

I plum forgot to take a picture of the makeup, but I will tell you what I used: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, MAC Studio Tech NC15, Kryolon concealer palette, Hot Pot gel eyeliner by Pop Candy, MAC False Lashes, falsies, Kat Von D by Sephora lipcolor in hellcat.

My results:

Photobucket

I rather enjoyed this one and I actually like my pictures. Shock.

Day 54:

Yea, I had no project tonight. I had an idea for something really awesome ... and it resulted in something totally gross. Now, before you sit there and say 'then why show us? Why not have a do-over?' let me tell you why. Because, frankly, you see me at what I deem 'acceptable' and occasionally think 'hey, that one could actually be pretty'. Why would I not show you myself at my ugliest? Now, granted I am not a zombie, I'm not scarred and I'm not sporting bruising. To me those things are cool and if I do them well then they're 'acceptable'. They are not me at my ugliest. This project is me at my ugliest. It's sloppy, stupidly placed, randomly colored and all sorts of 'no'. So here we go.

The makeup:
Photobucket
(Pictured: my staple primers, MAC Studio Tech NC15, MAC False Lashes, Hot Pot gel eyeliner by Pop Candy, Original88 Palette from CoastlaScents.com, Kat Von D by Sephora lipcolor in Hellcat, damask fabric I had laying around)

My horrific results:
Photobucket

Photobucket

I look like a Reaver with the damask over the mouth. I had planned on doing strong black eyes, strong red lips and have the damask almost be a veil over the whole face like a wallpaper. That changed somewhere. *shudder* Me at my worst, folks. Pray I never screw a job up like this.

Makeup 365 Day 52 - Curling Iron, My Friend

I have been on a mad hunt for a way to get those gorgeous big bouncy curls that we see on red carpets in my hair. For the record, my hair does nothing. By nothing I truly mean nothing. Curls do not stay in. I get halfway done with the curing iron and the first few curls are drooping. Pin curls make me look like Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix. Foam curler curls don't last. Once upon a time about 5 years ago I had a perm ... that didn't last. So, the great curl hunt has been on for years. Every now and then I find the motivation to try something else new and this weekend was it. I pin curled Friday into Saturday and got wild Bellatrix hair yet again. I decided it was time to get a set of hot rollers and did a youtube search for how-to videos(I am not above the how-to's). I found one vid where the girl blew her hair dry like normal and then puled her hair into a ponytail, curling just the ponytail. When she let her hair down OMG bounce red carpet curls! So, this AM I tried it. And it worked! A little hair spray and I have had gorgeous curls all day. All day! I can't believe it. Straight hair is for the birds!

Makeup 365:

Playing around on tumblr today (yea, I can't believe I have one now either) I came across a makeup done by an MUA in London for a recent shoot. I liked the way the liner was done, but put my own twist on it, hence why there is no project picture today.

The makeup:

Makeup 365 Days 50 and 51 - Tatting Up

This weekend proved to be busier than I thought it would be. Yesterday my mother took me downtown to see a dog that she is in love with (I'm pretty much anti-dog) and,let me tell you, she's a cutie. I was even allowed to name her. She should come home on Wednesday, so expect the makeup to come late that night. That being said, this weekend's makeup consists of a little fun with tattoos! My only tools were my Kryolon bruise wheel, a thin watercolor brush and some stamps.

I had far too much fun with this. The day I get the legit tattoo makeup from FX Warehouse I will be trying to paint a full sleeve on someone. Volunteers? ; )

Makeup 365 Day 49 - Vera Love

For those that don't know my camera's name is Vera. I will not go into explaining why considering it is nerdy and goofy and totally me, but anyway. I'm finding along with this lovely journey in makeup that Vera and I are getting to know each other a lot better. I take less photos and like more of them. It's amazing! Since I kind of went off last night on an 'omg I love film making and story telling' tangent I will simply get to makeup 365.

In other news: I got an email about two hours ago from LUSH telling me that I was one of 5 winners in their twitter contest today! I never win anything, so this was a big ol' deal for me! In lieu of that I figured I would push three of their products that I adore:

9 to 5 - my daily cleansing lotion

Ultra Bland - my makeup remover/face cleanser of choice
http://www.lushusa.com/shop/testresults/

and Breath of Fresh Air - my toner of choice

Love love love all three of these! Love LUSH for picking me! Yay!

Makeup 365 Day 48 - A Little Glam

I played with my curling iron today and have decided that my hair + heat = no effect. Right now, 5 hours later I have a decidedly un-cute wave in my hair. Yea, I know 'un-cute' isn't a word, but it conveys basically what this looks like which is hell on toast. I love my hair, don't get me wrong. I will especially love it after the Oireachtus is over and I can add feathers and a shot of color somewhere (I'm thinking pink or purple. Perhaps teal. That being said my hair does absolutely nothing that resembles a curl. I had a perm once for about a minute and it looked fab for about a week until it was just a limp wave. Gross. If I could just have some sort of texture in it, I would be over the moon. Add that to the ever-growing list of things that I as a woman do not like about myself. *sigh*

On a completely different note I had a moment today as I was watching The Chew before watching The Talk. Scorsese was on there talking about making Hugo and his passion for film making had me near tears. His love of the art form and the way he speaks so eloquently the things that I have such a hard time conveying stirred something in me. This feeling, this overwhelming sense that there are people out there like Scorsese without the 'Hollywood Icon' title who feel the same way about this art of story telling reaffirmed for me that this is not one of my throw away hobbies I will look back on and think 'oh, yea, I did that once upon a time'. There are stories out there that need to be told and with them come actors who need to become characters with the aid of a makeup artist. Yes, I know how that sounds, but it's true. A friend of mine who once played the Phantom in Broadway's Phantom of the Opera once told me that he closes his eyes while his makeup is applied so that he can open them and see the mask in place thereby completing the transformation. That is why I love this medium. The artistry, the amazing things you can hide and heighten, the characters you aid in creating; these are but a few reasons I love the art of makeup. It is more than making people beautiful, it is bringing out the character.

Stepping off the soap box now ... on to Makeup 365!

I had some errands to run today, so a basic face was needed. I realized I hadn't worn my fave red lip out in a while, so I picked my makeup around Kat Von D's Hellcat lipstick.

Makeup 365 Day 44, 46, 47 - Playing Catch-Up

Remind me the next time I get this behind that I said I never want to let it happen again. Yea, I'm not working, but it is amazing what you can fill your day with. Especially when everyone you know finds out you have all the time in the world and decide to give you everything they have ever needed altered. I'm up to my ears in sewing projects and Christmas gifts. Don't get me wrong, I love making gifts for my friends and family, I just have an over abundance of things to get done and Christmas is little more than a month away. Le sigh. Ok, enough griping, on to Makeup 365.

I took it in a different direction since I only had blue or black glitter, but it taught me that lotion is an amazing glue.

And Day 47:

I had some fun with my makeup today. I found a cream eyeliner amongst my mom's makeup that she had never touched and decided to try it. Along with my primers, MAC studio tech, Coral Caste lip color and False Lashes I really rather enjoyed this look. Top it off with figuring out that my hair can be scrunched and look halfway decent, today was a decent beauty day.

Makeup 365 Day 45 - Cosmic Love

I know I skipped day 44, but I was in NYC yesterday with my girlfriends seeing a show. Tomorrow I will do my usual game of catch up. That being said all day today, and I do mean all day, I have had 'Cosmic Love' by Florence + the Machine stuck in my head. I blame that on watching a little French short this morning that had a preview of 'Water For Elephants' with Cosmic Love playing over it. However, that sparked my imagination for tonight's makeup ... kind of. Florence Welch has a pretty amazing style, so I googled and found some pretty awesome shots of her with some pretty awesome makeup choices. I know I already did a black and white post, but I wanted to give it another try and see what new shades of gray I could create.

I promise to drop the black and white stuff for a bit. I found some nifty pictures of Ms. Welch, so stay tuned for some of those!
